This can give a weaker or inaccurate picture of the actual level of protection. For this reason, the more precise TDM test in accordance with ISO 13997 was introduced, in which a straight blade is pressed through the sample in a single stroke under varying levels of pressure measured in Newtons. The test results are expressed as letters from A to F.

Translating technical ratings into practical benefits helps clarify the level of protection. For example, a cut protection level of D or F indicates that the glove material can stop a sharp shard of glass or the edge of a thin sheet metal panel under heavy pressure without the blade cutting the skin. Likewise, a high puncture resistance rating helps ensure that protruding wire ends or rough metal shavings do not pierce the palm of the glove during installation work.

Materials and touchscreen technology – how is functionality ensured?

 

Capacitive touchscreens require electrical conductivity to function, transferring the fingertip’s naturally weak electrical charge to the screen surface.   • Latex coating: Provides exceptionally good grip in dry and damp conditions as well as excellent tear resistance. However, it does not hold up well against oils or solvents, so its range of use is more limited.

In addition to the material and coating, proper sizing plays a major role in how well the touchscreen feature works. Touchscreen technology requires an uninterrupted transfer of electrical charge from the skin through the glove’s fibers or coating to the screen. If the glove is too large, empty space and air pockets remain at the fingertip. This prevents reliable contact and makes using the screen imprecise or even completely impossible. A properly sized, snug-fitting work glove ensures that the contact area naturally meets the screen surface every time and that finger dexterity remains optimal.

When choosing a suitable material, the nature of the work must be taken into account. Thin assembly gloves provide highly precise touch control, making it possible even to type text messages or use the detailed menus of small measuring devices. In thicker gloves designed for more mechanically demanding work, the conductive area is often wider and extends to the sides of the fingertip as well. This makes it possible to press the screen from different angles without having to position the hand unnaturally.
