The red light can be turned on directly by pressing and holding the power switch for 1.2 seconds. The Fenix HM61R V2.0 runs on a standard 18650 Li-ion rechargeable battery or two cold-resistant CR123A batteries. Since you do not need to use an expensive proprietary battery tied to a specific manufacturer, you can always choose the best option available on the market for a spare battery, such as the rechargeable cold-resistant Fenix ARB-L18-2900L Li-ion battery.
