Sets quickly: A chemical reaction occurs when the product’s bio-oil comes into contact with water/moisture. It also works without water, but water speeds up the curing process.
5 times harder: Asphalt hardness can be evaluated using the Marshall stability test method (EN 12697-34), which measures the strength of compacted asphalt specimens. The Marshall stability of Asphalt Bio 50 is 5 kN after 24 hours, and since traditional asphalts do not reach 1 kN (the lowest measurable value), its strength is estimated to be at least five times greater.
Easier to apply in cold temperatures: Traditional solvent-based asphalt becomes stiff at low temperatures (<5 °C). Asphalt Bio 50 uses bio-oil as a plasticizer, so it does not have this problem in cold conditions.
Permanent patching result: Harder asphalt wears more slowly under traffic. Wear resistance can be measured using a cyclic compression test (EN 12697-25), in which an asphalt sample is exposed to the friction of rubber wheels over multiple cycles. The wear rate of Asphalt Bio 50 is comparable to hot mix asphalt, while traditional repair asphalt cannot even be measured this way due to its softness.
