Used for fastening applications such as snowplow blade bolts, track chain fastening, and similar uses. The square section under the head locks into wood or into a same-size square hole, making it easier to tighten the bolt.

The bolt has a dome-shaped head with no drive recess. The square section under the head locks the bolt in place so the nut can be tightened. Note the size and shape of the through hole. In sheet metal and hard materials, a square hole must be made so the locking section can seat properly.
