Stud screws, often confused with stud bolts, are industrial screw components used mainly in block assemblies and guide components. A stud screw is threaded at both ends, and the center section is unthreaded.
The thread lengths differ at the two ends of the stud screw, and the threaded end that goes into the block is always shorter.
The thread dimensions of a stud screw are determined by the diameter, depending on the standard. For a DIN 938 stud screw, the thread length on the shorter end is 1 x d, where d is the diameter of the stud screw. Correspondingly, for DIN 939, the thread length on the shorter end is 1.25 x d.
The length of a stud screw is stated as the effective length, where the threaded portion of the shorter end is subtracted from the overall length in the dimensioning.
