Studs, often confused with stud bolts, are an industrial fastening component used mainly in block assemblies and guide components. A stud has threads on both ends, while the center section is unthreaded.
The thread lengths differ at each end of the stud, and the threaded end that goes into the block is always shorter.
Depending on the standard, the thread dimensions of a stud are determined by its diameter. For DIN 938 studs, the thread length on the shorter end is 1 x d, where d is the stud diameter. Correspondingly, for DIN 939 studs, the thread length on the shorter end is 1.25 x d.
The length of the stud is stated as the effective length, where the threaded portion of the shorter end is excluded from the overall length measurement.
