Stud bolts, often confused with studs, are an industrial fastener component used mainly in block assemblies and guide components. A stud bolt has threads on both ends, while the middle section is unthreaded.
The thread lengths differ at each end of the stud bolt, and the threaded end that goes into the block is always shorter.
The thread dimensions of a stud bolt are determined by the diameter, depending on the standard. For DIN 938 stud bolts, the thread length on the shorter end is 1 x d, where d is the stud bolt diameter. Correspondingly, for DIN 939 the thread length on the shorter end is 1.25 x d.
The length of a stud bolt is stated as the effective length, where the threaded portion on the shorter end is deducted from the overall length.
