Chemical anchor bolts
Chemical Anchors for Concrete Fastening – Overview
Chemical anchor fastening is based on securing the anchor bolt (anchor rod) into a chemical compound, which is a two-component resin injected into a pre-drilled hole. This compound hardens, forming an extremely durable and vibration-resistant bond.
Components
Anchor rod / anchor bolt
Threaded rod, usually fully threaded
Materials: galvanized steel, stainless A4, acid-resistant
Compatible with nuts and washers
Often compliant with DIN 976 standard
Concrete fastening agent: chemical compound (anchor adhesive)
2-component resin (e.g. vinyl ester, polyester, epoxy)
Packed in a cartridge or ampoule
Typically injected using a special gun
Service life up to 50+ years, tested with ETA certifications
Applications in Concrete Construction
Application area - Examples
Load-bearing structures - Beam fastenings, brackets, support columns
Machine installations - Base and frame fastenings, racks
Infrastructure - Railings, bridge structures, traffic control devices
Facades - Suspensions, fasteners, solar panels
Sormat – Products and Features
Sormat ICC (Injection Capsule Composite)
ETA-approved for cracked and non-cracked concrete
Also suitable for reinforced concrete
Compatible with anchor rods
Available in different chemical compositions: epoxy, vinyl ether, polyester
Index Fixing Systems – Products
Index MO-PRO / MO-V / MO-PS / MO-EP
Several types of chemical resins:
MO-PRO: for general use (styrene-free)
MO-V: vinyl ether → high performance
MO-PS: polyester → cost-effective for indoor fastening
MO-EP: epoxy → heavy-duty fastening, even for cracked concrete
Features:
ETA approval for load-bearing joints
High tensile and shear strength
Also suitable for stone materials, brick, and lightweight concrete
Very low expansion → no risk of cracking
Installation Steps in Brief
Drill the hole size according to recommendations (e.g. for M12 rod → Ø14–16 mm hole)
Clean the hole carefully (dust affects strength!)
Inject the resin or use an ampoule
Install the anchor bolt with a light twisting motion
Allow to cure according to the manufacturer’s instructions before loading
Approvals and Standards
Approval - Meaning
ETA certificate (e.g. ETA-20/XXXX) - Verifies performance in load-bearing structures
CE marking - Requirement for construction products in the EU
Fire rating (R30–R120) - Tested for some products
