Makita DTD172Z 18V impact driver is an extremely compact impact driver that is easy to use in tight spaces. The flagship model among 18V drivers. Four speed/power settings of 180/170/50/20 Nm make it suitable for a wide range of jobs, from large to small screws. The even slimmer body design allows access to tighter spaces. The brushless motor-equipped tool features an easy-to-use control panel with four selectable settings for both impact power and rotational speed. The impact power settings can also be changed conveniently using the function button located above the trigger switch.

Various assist modes can also be selected from the control panel:
A setting for self-drilling screws, where the tool first runs at full speed. When the screw is about to penetrate the metal, the tool detects the resistance spike and adjusts the rotation speed to a slower setting. This makes final tightening much easier to control. There are two different settings for self-drilling screws depending on material thickness.
A dedicated setting for loosening bolts, where full power is applied at the start when loosening a bolt or nut. When the fastener begins to come loose, the tool stops automatically, making the final loosening easier to control and preventing the bolt or nut from flying out of your hand.
There is a setting for long wood screws where the tool starts rotating slowly, making the start of driving easier to control. Once the screw begins to bite into the wood, the electronics automatically increase power so the screw can be driven in quickly.

The Makita XPT system protects the tool effectively against water and dust even in the most demanding conditions, and the LED lights on both sides of the tool illuminate the work area efficiently. The tool lights can also be set to stay on continuously for up to one hour at a time, allowing the tool to function as a light as well. The soft grip increases comfort during use, and the battery protection system protects the battery from overload, overheating, and deep discharge. With the included standard hook, the tool can be conveniently hung from a belt, pants pocket, etc.
